Developer productivity is a hot topic right now, but what does it mean? Is it all just about squeezing more lines of code out of us poor, overworked developers? Or could it, in fact, lead to developer joy? In this session, Trisha will show some of her favorite IntelliJ IDEA tips for improving her own productivity. She’ll use these examples to talk about what productivity is, what it is not, and why it’s even more important to us as developers than it is to the organizations that pay our salaries. And it’s of course important to them, too! Attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how IntelliJ IDEA helps them to be effective, productive, and happy. Trisha wants you to look at your toolchain and ask yourself, “Does this enable me to be creative and happy?”

Sinan from the Delivery Hero mobile infrastructure engineering team shares a deep dive into performance acceleration with Gradle build cache optimizations. Sinan shares their journey into solving complex build-cache problems that affect Gradle builds. By understanding the challenges and solutions found in our journey, we aim to demonstrate the possibilities for faster builds. The case study reveals how overlapping outputs and cache misconfigurations led to significant increases in build times, especially as the project scaled up with numerous modules using Paparazzi tests. The journey from diagnosing to defeating cache issues offers invaluable lessons on maintaining cache integrity without sacrificing functionality.

Since 2021, Zalando invested in building up a developer portal called Sunrise, aimed to become the daily starting point for Engineers at Zalando.

Based on Backstage, Sunrise integrates many steps of the software engineering journey including information about teams, applications, APIs, events, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure accounts, databases, costs, machine learning models, notebooks and much more.

In this talk, we will explore the journey adopting Backstage, its rollout led by Levi, its pitfalls and why Sunrise’s continues to make the daily life of Engineers at Zalando easier.

With the latest release of Develocity comes the ability to create custom Grafana dashboards and queries with all of the power of the Develocity platform. This talk will cover what comes out of the box with the new Develocity Reporting Kit as well as how you can customize it to report on the metrics that matter to you, your team as well as your company. The Develocity Reporting and Visualization set of tools facilitate custom analysis of Develocity build data by allowing build data to be queried with an SQL-like language and visualized using the Grafana visualization platform.
